Work Study at the JKWC

Work-study positions are available to students who qualify for Federal Work Study funding.
Our work study students are the backbone of operations at the Center. Work study students should expect to work between 10 and 20 hours a week including a two hour weekly meeting every Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Work study positions and job descriptions can be found below.


Work Study Supervisor

Job Description


Purpose: To provide a consistent level of attention, direction, and organizing to the foundational staff at the JKWC- the work study students.


Responsibilities

The student will:

1. Verify payroll information every other week for work study students

2. Maintain work study schedule sheet

3. Schedule mandatory weekly work study meetings

4. Create either a daily or weekly to-do list for work studies

5. Maintain and organize all work study files, including paper files and computer files

6. Add events and programs to website calendar


Time Commitment

10 hours/week


Volunteer Supervisor

Job Description


Purpose

To provide a dedicated person to attend to student involvement at the JKWC and to manage the range of volunteers we attract.


Responsibilities

As the Volunteer Supervisor, the student will be responsible for the following (some of which will be in collaboration with the Work Study Supervisor):

1. Organizing and running the volunteer organizational meetings once a semester

2. Training new (and returning) volunteers using the volunteer training manual

3. Maintain a volunteer weekly schedule

4. Provide a regular list of “to-do” items for volunteers scheduled to work

5. At the end of the year, if applicable, training incoming volunteer coordinator


Outcomes

At the end of the year the student will:

1. Be able to effectively manage her time and to balance competing and simultaneous responsibilities

2. Become familiar with volunteer supervision and delegation of responsibilities

3. Develop materials to facilitate administrative demands

Publicity Coordinator

Job Description


Purpose

As no program is successful without creative and dedicated publicity, this role of the PC is vital to Women's Center programming. The purpose of this position is to ensure that we get an audience at our programs, to develop appropriate co-sponsorship for our events, and to evaluate other JKWC printed materials available to the public.


Responsibilities

1. The PC is the point person for all publicity and therefore she must maintain aggressive contact with students organizing events. She needs to establish a publicity calendar for the semester and can only do so if she works with student program coordinators.

2. PC is responsible for organizing (but not necessarily creating) the following publicity outlets:

Royal News, Aquinas, flyer copying and posting, information transmission to the UofS Public Relations Office, Gunster signs

3. PC will develop new and innovative ideas for publicity using feedback from fellow student organizers

4. PC will develop a publicity manual


Time Commitment

Will vary depending on events: 5-10 hours/week


Leadership Development Coordinator

Job Description


Purpose

As the collaborative Women’s Leadership Program develops and grows with Women’s Studies, the JKWC requires a dedicated student to oversee and coordinate the leadership events and programs.


Responsibilities

1. Research: The LDC will develop a list of Women’s Leadership Programs at other universities, both Catholic/Jesuit and secular. She will determine how they are run, how they are administered, and what programs they offer.

2. Women’s Leadership Brunch: As a staple for the WLP, the coordinator will prepare all materials for the brunch, develop the informational CDs, and publicize and recruit for the event.

3. Workshops: The LDC will oversee all leadership workshops offered at the Center including: publicity oversight, hosting the event, evaluations/assessment of programs, and thank you notes.

4. Development: The LDC will identify the areas of leadership in need of development. The JKWC welcomes creative and progressive input to better serve the students.

5. For all of the above, the LDC should begin to establish a manual of her position, responsibilities, assessment, and suggestions for future student use.


Time Commitment

10 hours/week


Historian and Assessment Coordinator

Job Description


Purpose

In order to better adjust and improve our programming, the JKWC needs to develop a more comprehensive and continuous assessment and evaluation plan.


Responsibilities

1. The AC will be sure that each scheduled program or event held at or in collaboration w/ the JKWC has (and distributes) evaluation forms.

2. The AC will compile forms and provide an executive summary and suggestions for the Director.

3. The AC is free to develop or change the program evaluations if they are not helpful, useful, or complete.

4. The AC will also compile the evaluations administered by the Director such as the work-study and volunteer evaluations and the Women’s Leadership Brunch evals. She will also provide an executive summary for the Director.


Time Commitment

Time will vary from week to week depending on programming: 2 hours/week


Campus and Community Culture Coordinator

Job Description


Purpose

The CCC position hopes to serve two functions. First, the CCC will expand her knowledge of the greater Scranton area and the services and organizations it supports. In developing a stronger and more regular relationship with local organizations, the second goal will be achieved- to increase the awareness of and support for the JKWC’s work and mission.


Responsibilities

Identify local organizations (and people) that share common goals and interests with the JKWC. Establish contact with these organizations in order to identify areas where we may collaborate. Collaboration can range from attending agency meetings, to program development, to organizing a specific campaign.


The CCC will keep an update list of all contacts and the content of the relationships established with those organizations.


Time Commitment

Variable. Approximately 5 hours/week
